With the slogan "Top of the World"
the Upper Engadine and above all St. Moritz advertise itself as a
holiday destination. This description can definitely apply to the
wonderful slopes and the fantastic panorama.
Skiing and snowboarding
The famous ski areas around St. Moritz, Corviglia, Corvatsch,
Diavolezza and Lagalb, are very much favoured due to their sunny
altitude and snow reliability. Therefore those altogether 350
kilometres of ski runs in the entire ski region create a real
skiing paradise. The largest coherent skiing area Corviglia/Piz
Nair/Marguns lies above St. Moritz and Celerina. Here the alpine
ski WM took place in 2003 and still today you can benefit from
these perfect conditions. Opposite at the Piz Corvatsch the broad
glacier runs offer the creme de la creme of skiing pleasure. The
attached ski runs of Furtschellas are slightly easier, but real
expert skiers find also here steep or deep powder snow slopes. The
skiing areas Diavolezza and Lagalb are situated slightly apart
from the Bernina massif, but yet they offer long and sporty runs.
Northeast from St. Moritz lies the small skiing area of Zuoz,
which provides quite ambitious ski runs. Wonderful freeride
possibilities are found in each of these areas.
Snowboard specials
In the area of Corviglia Marguns you meet in the well-known
halfpipe near Signal top-snowboarders once and again. At
Furtschellas attracts a freestyle park with jumps and drifts, and
anyway, the north-facing slopes of Corvatsch Furtschellas are a
perfect freeride area. Diavolezza and Lagalb are a varied
freestyle area with a natural halfpipe. |
