Andermatt: The Andermatt skiing area
ski runs – cross-country ski runs - skiing and snowboarding

Andermatt is a very conveniently situated resort in Central Switzerland, which particularly in winter radiates much peace and originality, also attributable to the fact that the surrounding Alpine passes of St. Gotthard, Oberalp and Furka, which are highly frequented in summer, are closed in winter.

Skiing and snowboarding
The Andermatt ski region covers altogether 55 kilometres of slopes, which are half difficult and half moderately severe. The ski region is divided into three individual skiing areas: the Gemsstock with nearly 3,000 m is the poster child of Andermatt. However only real professionals should tackle the descent from the Gurschen Glacier on the Bernhard-Russi-Run. The descent from the second glacier, the St. Anna Glacier, is however more moderate, but not absolutely suitable for beginners. Only in the lower part near the Gurschenalp there you find easy terrain. The Gemsstock with its approximately 23 kilometres of slopes is thus a true Eldorado for sporty skiers, snowboarders and lovers of off-piste skiing.

The other skiing area, which is directly reachable from Andermatt stretches with its 19 kilometres of beautiful slopes around Gütsch (2344 m) and Nätschen (1842 m). It is, however, not quite as high as the Gemsstock, but more moderate and therefore also suitable for beginners and families.

The third mountain, which is accessible from the neighbouring Hospental valley, is the Winterhorn (2661 m). Here a small, however, nice choice of 12 kilometres of ski runs attracts skiers and snowboarders.

Snowboard specials
On the Gemsstock with its stunning deep powder snow area and on the Nätschen one is attuned to the snowboarder’s needs. At the Gurschenalp beneath the Gemsstock the Snow Rail Park offers fun and action and also the small snowboard park on the Nätschen makes the second local mountain of Andermatt very attractive.

Cross-country skiing
The valley floor along the river Reuss is a real paradise for cross-country skiers. Here you can rage yourself out on cross-country ski trails groomed for both classic (28 km) as well as skate (28 km) skiing from Andermatt as far as Realp. If required also the return trip with the railway is possible without any problems.
