Mittenwald lies at 913m and has a picturesque, car-free centre. It is
a pleasure to walk through the village with its colourful gardens and
historical buildings. Mittenwald is famous for the violins fashioned
here. The violin museum has especially precious exhibits on display.
Enjoy the varied possibilities for hiking around Mittenwald. Visit the
public bath as well as the many lakes around Mittenwald. The Karwendel
railway takes you up to an altitude of 2244m in a matter of minutes.
There you can admire the nature reserve of the Bavarian lime Alps.
You will have a wonderful stay as there is also a mountain inn, a play
ground for kids, a sun deck with chairs. It is the starting point for
many panoramic loop roads, mountain tours and climbs. The Kranzberg
chair lift takes you to another hiking area at 1200m.
In winter you will have lots of fun in the powder snow. Sitting on the
sundeck you are right in the centre of the Mittenwald ski resort. The
Leutschklamm is said to be worth seeing and a popular destination for
excursions. There is plenty of lovely accommodation available in
Mittenwald, be it a hotel or holiday house. Mittenwald is a very
