Garmisch Partenkirchen is great for winter sports and has various ski
resorts. Garmisch lies at the foot of the Zugspitze and is ideal for
winter sportsmen. In winter, you will find anything from easy to
challenging slopes all around Hausberg, Kreuzeck and Alpspitze.. You
can practice winter sports here from November until well into spring.
The slopes are for both beginners and pros and leave you nothing to
wish for. The trails for cross-country skiers are well-kept and long
and lead through beautiful surroundings. Other activities include ice
stock sport, curling, sledging and snowshoeing. Spectators are always
impressed by the Hornschlittenrennen (a traditional sled race).
Should you like hiking, Garmisch is just the place for you. There are
lovely valleys, sunny meadows and always a great panorama to be
explored. The scenery is also stunning when you go mountaineering and
climbing. If water sports are your thing, you can jump into the
crystal clear lakes or go on a rafting tour on the Loisach. Surfing
and sailing on the nearby lakes is a special experience on account of
the beautiful scenery. Garmisch-Partenkirchen can be reached via the
Autobahn from Munich. A train also gets you here in less than an hour.
In the evenings you can spoil yourself with typical Bavarian
specialties and stay in one of the many places for accommodation. A
lovely holiday house can be as nice as a comfortable hotel. The choice
is up to you.
