The Portes du Soleil ski area
The “Gates of the Sun“ are the largest linked international ski area
in the world.
Since in the 60's twelve mountain villages in the Swiss Valais and in
the French Haute-Savoie have joined together, this cross-border area
offers with today 14 villages unbelievable winter sports possibilities
to the alpinist. Each of the ski resorts has kept its own identity and
presents both beginner and professional a unique choice of activities.
Skiing and snowboarding
650 km of ski runs of all levels of difficulty make Portes du Soleil a
winter sports resort of the superlative.
The ski areas in the French part are especially popular with families
and pleasure skiers. In the centrally located, car-free Avoriaz area
the landscape has rather pre-Alpine character. Here you find many
gentle slopes, on which you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama. Also in
Les Gets, in Morzine and on the intermediate ski runs around Lindarets
the pleasure skier finds many, excellently groomed ski runs |

From Lindarets you reach via the Col de Bassachaux the Linga sector
with descents of all levels of difficulty. The Portes du Soleil area
provides more than enough challenges for professionals: the extremely
steep mogul slope from the Pas de Chavanette down to Planchaux, or
with fresh fallen snow the wide slopes around Les Crosets and
Champoussin, the steep freeride slopes in Les Hautes Forts and the
powder snow slopes from Arare to Les Prodains and further on to
Morzine.
Snowboarding
8 snowboard parks provide almost endless possibilities for
snowboarders. Funparks and freeride possibilities attract elite
boarder from all over the world. Around Avoriaz you find with the
Arare Snowpark one of the best snowboard parks in France. For young
talents there is a snowboard village for children. In Les Crosets you
can rage yourself out on boardercross trails and qualify for the
competition „Verbier Xtrem“.
Cross-country skiing
259 kilometres of cross-country ski runs in the valleys, especially on
the French side, lead cross-country skiers above the
thousand-meter-mark and through charming landscapes.
There are also beautiful snow-guaranteed high altitude cross-country
ski runs: the Circuit de Morgins (1700 m), the Boucle de Super-Châtel
(1650 m) and the Piste du Lac (1700 m).
