The Stubai Valley ski region in Tyrol
Four
ski areas, one of them the largest all-year-round ski area of
Austria, these are the preconditions for boundless ski pleasure in
the Tyrolean Stubai Valley.
Skiing and snowboarding
With access into the valley via motorway, you reach the first ski
area at the village of Mieders with the Serles lifts. Here expects
you a family-friendly ski area of manageable size with 7
kilometres of ski runs. On the other side of the valley lies near
the village of Fulpmes the ski area Schlick 2000 with altogether
18 kilometres of ski runs. Here again are varied ski runs of
different levels of difficulty available.
From steep slopes to descents through forests to wide pleasure ski
runs everything is offered here.
Further
on into the valley follows the Elfer ski area above Neustift with its
altogether 7 kilometres of ski runs. Here only experienced skiers
should tackle the rapid valley descent. Then, at the end of the valley
you reach the actual main attraction of the Stubai Valley: The glacier
slopes beneath the Schaufelspitze on the Daunkogel-, Schaufel-,
Fernau-, Gaißkar- and Windacher Ferner (“Ferner" is the Tyrolean word
for glacier). The spacious ski runs are here predominantly easy
(particularly in the upper part) to intermediate (descents to the
central station near the “Dresdner Hütte”). Real cracks can change
over to off-piste skiing, where marked ski routes demand a great deal
also of professionals. |

Snowboard specials
A funpark on the glacier and a natural ride and jump park on Schlick
2000 are the meeting places for freestyle specialists.
Cross-country
skiing
Around Mieders await you four beautiful cross-country ski runs, on
which you can be as sportingly active as the mood strikes you. The
cross-country trail “Gleins Loipe” is, however, only 1.5 km long, but
enables the access into the Serles cross-country network. The
cross-country trail “Mieders Loipe” is with 5 km already a bit longer.
The cross-country trail “Kaser Loipe” with a length of 10 km is even
more demanding, but recompenses you with a wonderful panoramic view.
A special treat is surely the 14 km long cross-country trail “Serles
Loipe”. On the Schlick 2000 lures a cross-country ski touring trail as
well as a cross-country ski circular trail, which are both, however,
rather short. Near Neustift you have access into the 27 km long
cross-country trail “Talloipe”, the cross-country trail “Moosloipe”
runs on a length of 3 km in the proximity of the village centre and
the 10 km long trail “Waldloipe” leads romantically along the river
through the snow-covered forest.
The 5 km long glacier cross-country ski run at the ice lake you reach
with the Gamsgarten gondola lift.
