Sölden in the Tyrolean Ötztal valley is one of the
most well known winter sports destinations in Europe. Wonderful
slopes, two impressing glacier skiing areas as well as the famous
après-ski goings-on makes Sölden especially for the young and
sporty people a dream destination.
Skiing and snowboarding
A total of 146 kilometres of ski runs in the Ötztal Arena cover
all levels of difficulty. Easy ski runs are found between
Giggijoch and Rotkogelhütte as well as on the broad motorway
slopes at the Tiefenbachferner. The Gaislachkogel offers
predominantly moderately difficult ski runs and at the
Retttenbachferner, where you also can meet World Cup racers, it
becomes rather more challenging. |

Expert skiers look forward to the descent from the Hainbachjoch into
the valley, skiing 15 km from the Schwarzen Schneid far down to Sölden.
A special highlight is the "BIG 3 Rallye". In one day you conquer the
three “3-thousander” - the Gaislachkogl, the Tiefenbachkogl as well as
the Schwarze Schneid – of the skiing area and can thereby experience
them on a distance of 50 kilometres and 10,000 meters of elevation
change.
A real freeride paradise is Sölden both for skiers and for
snowboarders. On over 70 km you have the choice of several off-piste
variants, however at first you should inform yourself accordingly in
the "freeride center sölden". The ski route through the Rettenbachtal
valley is dealt as insiders’ tip.
For whom the offer in Sölden is not sufficient can explore of course
also the other skiing areas in the Ötztal valley. Especially Obergurgl
and Hochgurgl with an offer of ski runs of further 110 kilometres lies
quasi right at the front door.
Snowboard specials
The BASE Winter Park Giggijoch is located next to the chairlifts
Hainbachkar and Silberbrünl and offers on 2450 m altitude a large area
of 6 hectares, which stirs the snowboarder’s blood (kickers, corner,
tables, halfpipe, rails, chill area as well as a separate kids’ fun
park). Furthermore perfect freeride possibilities lure at the
Gaislachkogl.
Cross-country skiing
Even so Sölden is very alpine oriented, nevertheless there are also
for cross-country skiers several routes around town: Sölden - Hof (3
km), Sölden - Rechnau (5 km), Zwieselstein - Bodenegg (8 km), Vent (3
km). By including the proximity, for example in the direction of
Obergurgl/Hochgurgl or Längenfeld, then the variety of trails becomes
considerably larger.
