Skiing holiday in the Montafon - Skiing area
Ski resort - Ski area map - Holiday apartments - holiday houses - Hotels

Logo Montafon, ÖsterreichThe Montafon is a valley in Vorarlberg, which stretches over 39 kilometres and accommodates with its four larger and two smaller skiing areas the largest ski region in Vorarlberg.

Skiing and snowboarding
In the Montafon there are about 219 kilometres of ski runs for downhill skiing. With concentration on the larger skiing areas you reach at the entrance of the valley first the Golm skiing area, which is accessible from Vandans or Tschagguns-Latschau by mountain railway. The 27 kilometres of ski runs are predominately easy to moderately difficult and are variedly running partly through the forest and partly above the tree line.

But also here you can find a real challenge: The Diabolo descent with a gradient of up to 70 % is in parts the steepest slope in the Vorarlberg.

Current Snow Report

Skifahren im MontafonOn the opposite side of the valley you reach in Schruns the Silvretta Montafon Hochjoch skiing area with altogether 40 kilometres of ski runs. From Schruns two mountain railways lead up on the Hochjoch, from the Silbertal valley also a chairlift. Particularly in the Grassjoch area there are easy slopes dominating. From there you come via a long ski tunnel back again into the Hochjoch area, where, except for one black descent, also not so experienced skiers get along well.

Further into the valley before you reach St. Gallenkirch a side valley branches off leading to Gargellen, the highest situated village of the Montafon (1423 m). From Gargellen you get into the skiing area Gargellen with its 33 kilometres of slopes. Broad and easy downhill runs are dominating here, which are particularly appreciated by beginners and families.

The largest and most well known skiing area of the Montafon, the Silvretta Montafon Nova, is accessible from St. Gallenkirch as well as from Gaschurn. From these places mountain railways run into the first-class skiing area with its altogether 114 kilometres of ski runs of all degrees of difficulty. The slopes spread over two ridges, the Valiseraspitze and the Versettla, which are connected by a sophisticated network of lifts. Thus varied new landscape impressions and views appear to you again and again.

Snowboard specials
All the four large skiing areas of the Ski Arena Montafon have adapted to the desires of the snowboard freaks. On the Silvretta Montafon Nova you find the already several times awarded Nova Park with halfpipe, boardercross, rails and kicks. Real freaks find at the Silvretta Montafon Hochjoch in the Grasjoch area super freeride areas, likewise on the Golm. The snowboard school Gargellen offers freeride courses in the ski area Gargellen.

Cross-country skiing
Apart from Gargellen you find around all other places in the valley beautiful varied cross-country ski trails, which belong to a network of ca. 100 kilometres in the entire valley. The most extensive network of cross-country ski trails you find around the places St. Gallenkirch/Gortipohl as well as in Gaschurn/ Partenen. From St. Gallenkirch to Partenen leads also the longest cross-country ski run with a length of over 12 kilometres. The main attraction for cross-country skiers is however the Bielerhöhe, where in sunny altitude the ski runs are arranged on the frozen Silvretta Stausee, an artificial lake. Further high altitude ski runs are also found in the skiing area Golm as well as the Kristberg with the panorama cross-country ski run Kristberg.
