The resorts in the Bernese Oberland
The higher located regions of the canton of Berne, those are the
region around Lake Thun and Lake Brienz and the valleys south of it,
are referred to as the Bernese Oberland. Here tourism plays a large
role already for a long time, since holidaymakers discovered early on
the beauty of this unique area with its different holiday regions,
each of them has its own character and disposes of unique natural
resources. Also the location of the popular resorts couldn’t be more
diverse. Some places are situated at the bottom of the valley (Kandersteg,
Adelboden,
Grindelwald,
Zweisimmen, Lenk), others on valley terraces (Wengen,
Mürren,
Meiringen-Hasliberg,
Beatenberg) and again others on the
shores of a lake (Merligen, Brienz, Gunten, Iseltwald). Experience

Around Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau the slopes have rather an alpine and
challenging character, the snow regions of Saanenland and the sun
terraces of Hasliberg are rather gentle and the slopes of Adelboden
and Lenk are pleasantly wide. Cross-country skiers find for example in
Adelboden, Grindelwald, Gstaad, Lenk or Meiringen optimal conditions
to enjoy nature. Also off the slopes and cross-country ski runs the
Bernese Oberland has plenty to offer. While ice-skating, winter
hiking, riding on a horse-drawn sleigh or tobogganing you will have a
nice time.
From the picturesque and quiet mountain village with typical
wooden-style chalets to the sophisticated skiing resort of Gstaad,
where the belles and the rich meet, there is something suitable for
each type of holidaymaker. The cultivated gastronomy spoils the guests
