Lake Maggiore lies embedded in the midst of a fantastically
beautiful landscape. While in the north the lake is surrounded by
mountains, which provide many beautiful walking routes, in the
south the landscape merges into gentle hill country and the Po
Valley.

In the mountains there are small remote villages, gentle valleys,
canyons and steeply rising bleak summits. The hillsides in the
surroundings are mostly covered with mixed forest, in autumn you
find here delicious aromatic mushrooms, including the popular
yellow boletuses.
Who prefers to avoid the exhausting ascent on the mountains, can
also comfortably take the cable car and start with the hiking tour
from the top. So for example

The autumn is very suitable for extended hiking tours in mostly bright
weather with clear view. In September falls relatively much rain,
while it is distinctly drier in October. Therefore October is the best
month for hikers. But also at midsummer you can wonderfully combine a
beach holiday with a hiking holiday, since it is much cooler in the
mountains than down on the lake. Anyway, the most trails lie in the
shade.
