Hiking and biking on Lake Garda – fascinating and heavenly
beautiful routes

 The
region around the northern part of Lake Garda offers hikers and
mountain bikers a varied and contrasting landscape, which can be
explored marvellously on foot or by bike.
Visitors who come to this wonderful area for already many years agree
that Lake Garda with its mountain region belongs to the most beautiful
areas for hikers and bikers.
Here you find species-rich Mediterranean vegetation, vineyards,
cypresses, olives, mulberry trees and in the higher regions alpine
pastures with many alpine plants.
The area around the Monte Baldo is referred to as the garden of Italy,
because a very species-rich flora can be admired here.
Apart from beautiful nature you get spoilt with a breath-taking view
of the lake and the surrounding mountains at many places. To walk or
bike here is really a very special experience. There are innumerable
hiking trails and biking routes in the most diverse degrees of
difficulty and lengths.
Who shies away from an exhausting ascent to Monte Baldo, can also
comfortably take the panoramic cable car from Malcesine (bicycles are
allowed to be taken along) and start the tour from the top. You
should, however, first stop and enjoy the view of the fascinating
mountain scenery and the dark blue lake, on a clear day you can even
see as far as to the lagoon of Venice.
In recent years the region has become a true paradise for mountain
bikers. There are numerous routes for bikers, from easy short tours
along the lakeshore through to tricky single-trails, ambitious day
trips in the mountains or downhill trails. In Noveza and Prada there
is a bus shuttle available, which brings bikers up on the mountain
from where they can drive down on one of the downhill trails.
Here pleasure bikers as well as professionals get their money’s worth.
Since the cycle trails are not continuously signposted, the biker
should adhere to the sign-postings for hikers. You find particularly
popular routes in the Monte Baldo region, in the area around Arco and
Riva, on the west shore around Tremosine or northwest of Lake Garda in
the area around Lake Idro and Lake Ledro.
In most of the places on Lake Garda you find bicycle rental
facilities. There are also guided tours for mountain bikers, for
example from the Official Centre KTM in Malcesine.
